Choosing

How to choose delivery software for a Pakistani round

The short answer

Six things decide whether delivery software will actually work for a water, milk or LPG round: does it track returnable containers per customer, does the rider app work offline, can rates differ per customer, is rider cash controlled per round, does it fit Pakistan (rupees, Urdu, WhatsApp, local support) and what does it cost at one route. Everything else is preference. If a product fails the first two, no amount of the rest will save it.

The six criteria, side by side

Compared against the two things a Pakistani supplier is realistically choosing between: a general business or POS package, and the spreadsheet they are already using. We have included the row where Irsaal is the wrong answer, because you will find it out eventually and it is cheaper for both of us if you find it out now.

Delivery software selection criteria compared across Irsaal, general business software and a spreadsheet.
What to check Irsaal General business / POS software Spreadsheet or register
Returnable container tracking The difference between a delivery business and a retail one. If bottles are not a per-customer balance, they are an annual write-off. Built in. Every bottle is a balance per customer, reconciled against deposits. Usually absent. Bottles are modelled as a product sold, so returns have nowhere to go. Possible, and accurate for about two months.
Offline rider app A round through weak coverage still has to be recorded at the stop, not from memory that evening. Offline-first Android and iOS app, included on every plan. Often a web page in a browser; needs signal at every stop. None. The rider writes on paper and someone types it later.
Per-customer rates Every established supplier is running several price tiers whether they admit it or not. Rates per customer, per product and per route. Single price list, with discounts applied by hand. A VLOOKUP that one person understands.
Rider cash control Cash collected on a round is the largest uncontrolled exposure in most delivery businesses. A ledger per rider, closed at the end of each round. Cash lands in one account with no rider attribution. Reconciled monthly, if at all.
Local fit PKR, Urdu names, Asia/Karachi scheduling and WhatsApp are not customisations here, they are the defaults. Written in Pakistan for Pakistani rounds; support in English and Urdu. Built elsewhere; currency and language are settings, and support is on another clock. Whatever you type into it.
Cost at one route A supplier with one rider should not pay enterprise pricing to stop losing bottles. Starter plan, monthly in PKR, plus the one-time setup fee shown on the plan. Often priced per user or per vehicle, in dollars. Free, and the cheapest option until the first serious reconciliation.
Where it is the wrong tool Worth saying plainly. A round with no repeat customers, no returnable containers and no fixed routes — one-off courier work — gets little from Irsaal. A general logistics or courier platform fits that better. Fits one-off, address-to-address delivery well. Fine for a handful of customers you can hold in your head.

Questions worth asking any vendor

Including us. Ask them in a demo and watch what happens.

  • Show me a customer who is holding 7 bottles, and where that number comes from.
  • Turn off the phone's data and complete a delivery. Now turn it back on.
  • Put two customers on different rates and generate both invoices.
  • Show me what one rider collected today and what they handed in.
  • Show me every customer who has owed money for more than 60 days.
  • Print an invoice with an Urdu name and address on it.

Any product that can do all six in a live demo will run your round. Any product that needs to "get back to you" on one of them will not.

When to switch, and when not to

Switch when you are running more than one route, you cannot say how many bottles are out without counting, your rider cash is reconciled monthly rather than daily, or your monthly billing takes more than a day.

Do not switch yet if you have one rider, thirty customers and a register that balances. Software will not pay for itself at that size, and we would rather you came back at three routes than left after two months.

Do not use us at all if your work is one-off address-to-address courier delivery with no repeat customers and no returnable containers. That is a genuinely different problem and a logistics platform serves it better.

FAQ

More on what Irsaal is

The questions that come up once the comparison is done.

What is Irsaal?

Irsaal is business software from Pakistan, made by Irsaal Software, sold as four products on one platform: water delivery, LPG cylinder delivery, milk shops and dairies, and goods transport. The three delivery products run a round — customers, routes, riders, returnable bottles or cylinders, security deposits, invoices, recovery, stock and reports — with a rider app that keeps recording when the signal drops. The goods transport product runs a forwarding company: bilties at the booking counter, loading challans for hired vehicles, receiving, To-Pay collection and the accounts between stations. Office staff work in a web panel, in English or Urdu.

Who is Irsaal for?

Irsaal is for any business that delivers the same customers again and again on a schedule. In practice that means water plants and mineral water suppliers, dairy and milk rounds, LPG cylinder distributors, ice suppliers and small distribution companies. It suits an operation from a single rider on one route up to several routes with an office team, because routes, riders and staff logins are added as the round grows rather than fixed at signup. Goods transport and cargo companies that book consignments at their own stations and hand them over at others have a product of their own, sold by the number of stations.

What makes Irsaal different from general accounting or POS software?

Accounting software records that a sale happened; Irsaal records that a bottle left, who has it, whether the deposit covers it and whether it came back. A delivery round has three things ordinary business software has no concept of: returnable containers that move in both directions, a rider who is holding both stock and cash all day, and a repeating schedule per customer. Irsaal is built around those three, which is why a water supplier can close a day in it and know the bottle count and the cash count both reconcile.
